[ ] 27. Install C12, .001 uf (marked .001 or 102).
[ ] 28. Install R13, 470 ohms [yellow-purple-brown].
[ ] 29. Install R14, 470 ohms [yellow-purple-brown].
[ ] 30. Install jumper wire JMP4.
[ ] 31. Install R12, 10K [brown-black-orange].
PROGRESS NOTE: If we visualize the PC board divided in half, you have
now installed all parts on U2's half of the board except for the Low and High
data LEDs. Therefore, most of the modem circuitry associated with the
transceiver input and output is completed. The remainder of our work will
bring in the serial port and U1's six inventors.
[ ] 32. Install jumper wire JMP5 near J1.
[ ] 33. Install C10, .001 uf (marked .001 or 102).
[ ] 34. Install R18, 2.2K [red-red-red].
The following diodes and jumper wires may be inserted and soldered as a
single construction sequence. Be sure that the diode cathode bands are
oriented correctly, or there will be no serial communication!
[ ] 35. Install diode D6. See Construction Note #1 regarding polarity.
[ ] 36. Install diode D2.
[ ] 37. Install diode D7.
[ ] 38. Install jumper JMP1.
[ ] 39. Install jumper JMP2.
[ ] 40. Install C1, .001 uf (marked .001 or 102).
[ ] 41. Install C11, the large 220 uf electrolytic capacitor.
[ ] 42. Install C16, 4.7 or 10 uf electrolytic, observe polarity.
[ ] 43. The 7805 voltage regulator VR1 is installed standing straight up with
the bare metal heatsink tab facing C16. Press VR1's 3 stiff pins in as far as
they will reasonably go and solder.
