INTRODUCTION
This addition to your UP24B manual will help you install the drivers and
software to connect the UP24B to your computer. This manual includes
terminal GET and SET commands that will allow you to get the most out of
your UP24B. For dabblers not interested in such low level controls, we also
include instructions for installing Ramsey’s custom UP24 control software.
(Please note that this software is provided as-is for demonstration purposes
only. Because of variations in PC operating systems and drivers, Ramsey
cannot provide support for this software.)
UP24B Drivers and Software:
Connecting the UP24B to your PC is simple and easy via the built-in USB
port. The driver is not included in the UP24B package and must be
downloaded prior to installation. Please visit our web site at
www.ramseyelectronics.com/download
for the latest drivers and custom
software for the UP24B.
Using the USB port:
You will need a computer that has support for USB devices. The UP24B has
a device which allows you to access it just like a standard serial port using
the USB interface so that modern computers may easily connect to it. The
connection interface supports both USB 1.1 and USB 2.0.
The UP24B accepts a standard “Mini-B 5 Pin USB Connector”. A USB cable
with Mini-B to Standard A connectors is included with the UP24.
Acting like a standard serial port, the first thing to be done after your driver
installation is to go into the menu of the UP24B and select a communications
rate for the data. Select Menu->Utils->Baud Rate; a list of baud rates will
be presented. The higher the baud rate, the faster the data transfer. The
UP24B uses 8,N,1 format for 8 bits, no parity and 1 stop bit. Next, set the
PC’s software to the same baud rate and use the COM port which is
assigned to the UP24B interface. We recommend that you use 38,400 for a
baud rate as it is both fast and reliable.
You will have the following possible selections:
Disabled
76,800 8,N,1
38,400 8,N,1
19,200 8,N,1
9,600 8,N,1
4,800 8,N,1
